Initial review of the Canon 5D Mark II

Posted in People on November 5, 2011 by mikelaputt

I never realized I would come to enjoy the full frame capabilities of 5D. My workhorse 1D Mark III has a factor of 1.3x. It was great to be able to have the extra latitude of being close to my subject. The full walk through  Read more »

Copyright Issues

Posted in Thought Process on March 9, 2011 by mikelaputt

Every photographer who is serious about their craft will eventually run into copyright issues.  Because of the advent of digital photography, most folks have devalued the craft.  I think it’s because everybody can purchase relatively inexpensive digital cameras and equally inexpensive inkjet printers.  This gave everybody the ability to take snap shots and print them out at their leisure.  In the mind of a regular person, because they can Read more »

Switching back to CF cards from SD cards

Posted in Thought Process on February 8, 2011 by mikelaputt

After 2 years of using SD cards, I’ve come back to the CF card fold. These small, high capacity cards that I’ve come to like are showing signs of wear that I never experienced in 8 years of using compact flash cards. These last sets of SD cards I’ve been using are Class 10, 32Gb pro cards. I started using them to reduce the number of equipment I have to rely on. With the cf cards, I had to bring along a card reader. The SD cards just plug right into Read more »

Windy Conditions

Posted in Thought Process on November 28, 2010 by mikelaputt

It was down right miserable today at the track! I can deal with the cold. But when you add blustering wind to the equation, I’m just a degree away from calling it a day. It’s not as unbearable as rain. Although I will call it a day at the first hint of raindrops. It was enough to throw me off my game. The tough part about today was the way the wind throws me off my aim. I don’t think there was ever a day that I’ve cut the heads in my frame so much.

Essentials: Web Space

Rained Out!

Posted in Thought Process on October 30, 2010 by mikelaputt

It is a rare occurrence to get rain at Spring Mountain.  Today was one of those rare days.  Although I have the gear to work in the wet, I decided to cut loose before my day even started.  No one is going to Read more »

New Track “Chuckwalla Valley Raceway”

Posted in Motorcycles on April 3, 2010 by mikelaputt

The first few events are always the most difficult when photographing a new track.  On a regular event on a track that I am familiar with, I generally do the more difficult, outside angles first then do the easier inside shots.  I reversed that Read more »

Fastrack Riders at LVMS

Posted in Motorcycles on March 14, 2010 by mikelaputt

I generally try to do different angles on a weekend event.  This weekend was an exception.  Except for a few tweaks, I decided to do the exact same angles as yesterday’s private track day. Read more »

LVMS, back to where it all started.

Posted in Motorcycles on March 13, 2010 by mikelaputt

The Las Vegas Motor Speedway brings back a lot of memories for me.  This was where my photography all started back in 1999.  In fact, it was on a track day that Dale Kieffer of Racers Edge Performance organized.  Now I come back full circle Read more »
